Business mobile contract checklist for UK teams

Check SIM-only plans, handset contracts, pooled data, roaming, coverage, unused connections and upgrade cycles before switching business mobiles.

Review actual usage

Start with the number of users, current monthly spend, data usage, roaming patterns and contract end dates. Many mobile estates grow gradually, which can leave old tariffs and unused SIMs in place.

Usage reports can help identify who needs more data, who uses very little and which connections may no longer be needed.

Check coverage where staff work

Coverage should be checked at offices, depots, customer sites, home working locations and regular travel routes. A network that works well in one place may not be best for another.

Ask staff where they experience dropped calls or poor data before switching.

SIM-only or handset contract

SIM-only can be useful where devices are already suitable. Handset contracts may be better where staff need new company phones or a planned upgrade cycle.

Check ownership, insurance, warranty and what happens if a user leaves before the end of the contract.

Roaming and out-of-bundle costs

Roaming, international calls, premium numbers and excess data can all create unexpected costs. Spend caps and alerts can help, but only if they are set up correctly.

International usage should be discussed before comparing tariffs, not discovered after the first bill.
